About

Broken Anchor, formerly known as The Table Café, is a seafood restaurant in Kelowna that focuses on serving fresh and simple dishes made with 100% sustainable seafood.

What does Broken Anchor mean?

Letting go of the past, leaving inhibitions behind, and looking forward to a better future. An anchor symbolizes safety and perseverance; despite turbulent waters, it holds still. Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, our anchor shifted. Everything we knew was swept away by the stormy waters and in what seemed like an eternal instant, our anchor evolved. So, we let go of the past and are moving forward towards calmer waters and a healthier future.

Why the NAME change?

The Table Café was a place where people could come together and make friends over a communal table. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent reopening restrictions, this concept had to be abolished. However, the owner of the café is optimistic about the future and believes that this change could be a good thing.

On March 17th, 2020, which was also the owner's birthday, they had to shut down the café due to a significant drop in business. This was a devastating blow, and the future looked bleak. Many other restaurants had closed down permanently, and the owner feared that they might have to do the same.

After a few sleepless nights, the owner looked back at their original business plan, projections, and financial data to develop a new plan. This involved going back to basics and starting over, just like they had done in the early days of the business.

Over the past 12 weeks, the café has emerged as something different from the original plan. They have a new menu and a new style of service, and they are excited to move forward and evolve.

What to expect?

We offer a simple and fun menu that's perfect for picnics, beach trips, and enjoying with friends and family. While we mainly focus on takeaway meals, we do provide some eat-in options on our patio. All of our food is homemade, including chowders, sauces, dips, and dressings that are made in-house. Our famous chips are cut every evening, soaked in brine overnight, and cooked fresh every morning. The pico de gallo and romaine are chopped just before serving.

When you come to our counter to order and collect your food, our always friendly staff will greet you. We only offer wine by the bottle, but we've removed the traditional markup. Instead, we apply a simple corkage fee of $15 per bottle, and you're free to take home anything you don't finish. We'll provide you with excellent Riedel glassware and ice buckets without any fuss or pom. Our goal is to provide good wine at affordable prices. Since we live in the Okanagan, you're more than welcome to bring your own bottles from our wonderful local wineries.

Our beers are from local breweries, cider from down the road, and wines from within a 15-minute drive. More importantly, we support our friends who own small businesses.
